Protecting Our Avian Friends

Collisions with buildings, habitat destruction, and safety issues—often due to our pets- are among the threats that produce severe declines in bird populations.

According to research published in August 2024 in PLOS ONE, more birds than estimated are killed because of collisions with buildings of all sizes. According to Fordham University, NYC Bird Alliance, and Stony Brook University scientists, in the United States alone, well over one billion birds are killed annually in bird strikes. Only about 40 percent of birds recover from such injuries.

Listed below are various articles and research reports describing the importance of the problems and some solutions we must take to help our flying friends survive.
